Small Business Shipping Bags Where Rework Costs Start
October 15, 2026The email had three attachments. One was a photograph of a competitor pouch taken on a shop floor tile. One was a screenshot of a courier rate card. The third was a one-line message that read, please quote your best price for 20,000 pieces. Nothing in those three files said what size the pouch was, what film it was made of, or what the seal had to survive. The buyer wanted a number for a shipping pouch malaysia order, and no number could be built from what was sent.
Every shipping pouch malaysia order is assembled from figures that come from three different places. The brand owner holds some of them, the production line holds others, and a test report holds the rest. Quoting before those three sets are on the table produces a number that looks precise and moves the moment one of them changes. The useful question is not what the pouch costs, it is who supplies each number.
What the Brand Owner Supplies for a Shipping Pouch Malaysia Order
Three figures belong to the buyer and cannot be guessed by a supplier. The first is the internal dimension, taken from the largest product you actually ship rather than the average one. The second is the monthly volume, stated as a range rather than as a single hopeful figure. The third is the artwork in vector form, with the spot colours named rather than described.
A fourth figure is often forgotten, which is the range of contents. A pouch that carries a folded T-shirt and a pouch that carries a 400 g glass jar are not the same specification, because the second one has to survive a drop onto a hard surface. Saying what the pouch will hold is faster than saying what film you think you need.

Destination Mix and Ceiling Before Any Cost Talk
A fifth is the destination mix. A pouch that only ever travels inside Peninsular Malaysia and a pouch that crosses to Sabah or Sarawak see different handling, different transit times and different humidity. Stating the mix up front changes the film and seal recommendation, and it is information only the buyer has.
The sixth figure arrives last, and usually only after we have asked twice, and it is the ceiling you will accept per parcel. Stating a ceiling does not weaken your position, because a supplier working to a number can propose a thinner film or a single colour instead of quietly dropping the order. A supplier working without one spends the same week quoting three specifications you were never going to buy.

Closure, Coverage and Flap Print Three Specification Calls
Two choices sit with the buyer even though the supplier could technically decide them. The first is the closure, whether the pouch uses a permanent peel-and-seal strip, a re-sealable second strip for returns, or a tear strip for the customer to open. A returns strip changes the film layup and the adhesive, and it changes the price.
The second is print coverage. A single-colour mark on one face is a different job from full-bleed coverage across both faces, since the gap between the two is measured in ink volume and in the number of plates. Deciding coverage early is the cheapest specification decision in the whole order, because nothing has been cut yet.
A third decision sits with the buyer and is usually left unspoken, which is whether the pouch has to carry print on the flap. A flap is the part of the bag that folds, creases and carries the adhesive, so artwork there is subject to distortion that no proof shows. Saying no to flap print removes a variable that no supplier can resolve later.
What the Line Checks Before It Prices Anything
Once the buyer figures are in, the line supplies the rest of the physical specification. Extrusion gives the film gauge, usually quoted in micron per side, and the resin blend that decides puncture resistance and seal behaviour. Conversion gives the bag-making parameters, which include seal bar temperature, dwell time and the seal width in millimetres.
The line also supplies the number most buyers never ask for, which is how many metres of film are expected as start-up waste on a run of this size. That figure is honest information about the job rather than a defect, and it is part of why quantity and colour count move the unit price together.
A third line figure is the seal integrity window, meaning the range of temperature and dwell time over which the seal holds. A narrow window means the bag seals well on a calibrated machine and poorly on an old one, which matters if your packing line is a heat sealer bought second-hand.
Our mailer bag Malaysia comparison sets the pouch against the carton on three of these dimensions, and the process page shows the order in which the line confirms them.
Thickness, Tensile and Seal Each With Its Own Measurement
The third group of numbers comes from measurement rather than from opinion. Film thickness is measured on a gauge, tensile strength and elongation are measured on a tensile tester, and seal strength is measured on a peel tester. These are the figures that let a buyer compare two suppliers who both claim the same micron.
A test report also tells you what the pouch will not do. A seal that holds 12 N per 15 mm on a lab bench is a seal that holds in a controlled test, not a guarantee about a parcel thrown into a sorting cage. Reading the number alongside its test conditions is what makes it useful.
Batch Date and Tolerance Where They Settle the Cost Argument
Ask for the date and the batch on any report you are given. A figure measured on a film produced eighteen months ago under a different resin supply is not the figure for the roll that will make your bags next month, and a supplier who can produce a recent report is telling you something about how often they test.
Pos Malaysia publishes its own parcel guidance in a knowledge hub covering tracking and shipping questions, and that is the reference Malaysian sellers check when they work out what a pouch has to survive between the bench and the doorstep.

Where a Shipping Pouch Malaysia Quote Actually Comes From
The quote is the arithmetic of those three groups. Brand owner figures set the size and the artwork, production figures set the film and the conversion parameters, and the test report sets what can be claimed about the result. When a quote changes late in the conversation, it is almost always because one of the three sets was assumed rather than supplied.
Lead time, sampling and freight out of the plant follow from three inputs alone, namely the specification, the closure method and the quantity. Our sales team turns those three into dates once you have supplied them, and not before. A poly bag for shipping order that skipped the test figures is where most late changes come from.
There is one more figure in the arithmetic, and it belongs to nobody in particular. That is the tolerance, meaning how far a delivered pouch may sit from the number on the drawing. A film gauge quoted at 60 micron arrives somewhere inside a band, and a bag length quoted at 350 mm does the same. Agreeing the band before the order is cheaper than arguing about it after, and it is the single line most often missing from both the drawing and the quote.
Before you ask a shipping pouch malaysia supplier for a better price, check which of your own numbers is still missing. Can you state the internal dimension and the monthly range in one sentence? If not, that is the number to go and get.
